Did you happen to see this gorgeous, titillating photograph of the Dalai and dear Desmond? I found it on my top secret Facebook page, designed to keep tabs on both a wonderful group of far flung friends (most some version of academic cowgirl rabid independents on real horses, whipping up actual lemon bars, and ALL doing secret good work) and a mixture of beloved long lost relatives and non-beloved long lost relatives.
If you don't touch that sentence and just throw a little mindfulness at it, or what.ev.er. -- you will understand the need for my top secrecy on idiot Facebook. I won't be troubled with the "idiot" label, either.
You can call me stoopid, even.
But moving beyond the "friends," try to find the vast Facebook-wide compendium of comments on this bit of visual pedophilia and moral putrification. The collection of "dark karma" sucks the eyes out your ear canals, but it only hurts an everlasting second.
Back to the JOY!

A Letter From My Buddy Barack Obama
Explain, dissect, conjugate, and defend the following assertion:Michael Reagan, son of United States of America President Ronald Reagan will one day serve on the board of The John Douglas French Alzheimer's Foundation.
Of course, this pretty standard "no-make ups allowed" major exam question was in French, as this was a course designed to dunk -- by which I mean, of course, immerse students into French Lit. As you can tell from the question, we had just finished reading Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot.
Oops. Train of thought problems, yet again. I was telling you about the letter I just personally retrieved from my private email account -- known only to my best of best Facebook Friends. [Loud guffaw! I have a fake Facebook account and about, oh, two Friends, all the rest being right-wing relatives. My two Friends are right-wingers, as well, but tolerant. Very tolerant.]
So, yeah, it was from Barack. My buddy Barack.
[Look, let me settle this, as I just was barraged, nay, blitzkrieged by two Super Secret Facebook Friends who are actual full-blood relatives and consider themselves, and I quote: "progressive as hell, girl!" Fine, let them assert their leftist tendencies. Yes, their leftist tendencies surpass even my own, to the extent that I doubt either of them have ever voted in their entire political adult lives. Not even for McGovern. Okay... I'm telling lies now. Let's just say that they may temper their support for President Obama due to expectations of a shift to the left by a rather large amount. Not this profderien, no ma'am! I adore, respect, love, admire, and imitate this intelligent sign of life -- and his awesome family -- every chance I get. Well, okay, so there are a few things, policy-wise, that could use a slight Marxist tweak, but, most days, I'm fine with that.]
That's right. The President, himself, writing to The Moi, care of, admittedly, the Haddock Corporation (now completely divested from Halliburton *).
* Can you freaking believe that "Halliburton" pops up as a correction in SPELL CHECK?! How screwed up is that? I mean does "amnety internatenal" show up in spell check? No, it does not, thankyouverymuch! Jesus.
Cough. Yes, my friend Barack wrote to thank me -- just me -- for my round-the-clock, high tech multi-year campaign on behalf of the watered-down Affordable Care Act. I keep referring him to my other dearest pal, Bernie Sanders, but haven't heard yet how that's going (so much to talk about!).
In the past, as many a Beloved Reader of this blog recalls, I have shared a few of my personally keyboarded letters to our President -- never violating protocol, naturally, but always seeking advice from the now deceased Tante Louise on how best to post presidential correspondence.
Well, okay. Tante Louise and I may have flubbed a few posts in which my buddy Barack figured, but we toed the, er, red line in the, er, sand when it came to my personal, and by personal I mean one-on-one, tête-à-tête sorts of intimate, soul searching, letters. The whole Flaubert and Bob Herbert catastrophe. The admittedly odd basketball post.
Even when you limit a search of this blog to "Obama, ACA," there are just a half-dozen or so weird ones... I mean, omit blog war waged on Walmart, and the regrettable incident in which I claimed not to be able to support "Obamacare" until Socialism was in place. I was on drugs. You can tell, I bet. I mean, look -- clearly, I say often enough that Obamacare -- the ACA, the PCIP, whatever you like to call it -- saved my life.
Probably, that's all my vast reading public needs to know: President Barack Obama saved my life.
And then pulls off this comedic email in which he pretends I had something to do with this brave legislative and moral effort [ ::waving:: at teddy!].
That is a true friend, indeed.
Oh hell, there is a man in a terribly plain blue suit that has been tailored, clearly, to hold a spare machine gun and drone in the small of his large back... peeking in the badly leaded hand-poured window panes that stud the upper chamber of the Computer Turret. I have repeatedly and repeatedly asked Barack, even "cc"-ing Michelle, to have the damned Secret Service "STAND DOWN," already!
Jesus.

[Hi there, prof-de-rien! How're they hanging?]
I had to take a moment to say thank you.
Lisa, you made history.
A long line of organizers fought for nearly 100 years to make health care reform a reality, and now we're seeing the results. Millions of Americans have health insurance today, thanks to reform -- some for the first time in their lives.
The work you did is how real, lasting change gets made, and I hope it will be remembered for years to come.
I'm so happy your name will be there, alongside mine, as part of OFA's permanent record of the people who made health care reform happen.
If you know anyone else who deserves to be recognized, tell them to add their name here:
http://my.barackobama.com/You-
Anyone who was part of this decades-long fight will tell you it was never easy, but it was always the right thing to do. Teddy Roosevelt knew it. Harry Truman knew it. Teddy Kennedy sure knew it.
No matter how hard it got, the results we're seeing today make it all worthwhile. Millions of Americans now have coverage, and even more have better health care, thanks to the work you did.
Take a moment to let that sink in.
It's proof that when people come together and fight for what they believe in, real, lasting change is possible.
I can't thank you enough,
Barack Obama

20 months old and she's a big fan of Elvis and her Daddy!
8/5/2013 UPDATE:
Thank you everyone for all the kind words about Ella Mae! We really appreciate all of the likes and shares!!! She really is a lot of fun as you can see.
To answer the big question, Yes Ella does like to sing other songs. Some of her favorites include, of course more Elvis - Suspicious Minds & Lawdy Miss Clawdy; The Beatles - Twist & Shout; Stray Cats - Stray Cat Strut; JD McPherson - Fire Bug; The Beach Boys - Barbra Ann; Bruno Mars - The Lazy Song; Bobby Day - Rockin' Robin and Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting For You (duet with Mom!!!). However she is only 21 months old and easily distracted so it can be quite challenging to get another video like this one. If we can come up with another good one I will definitely post it.
For all of the comments about the straps on the car seat, we adjusted them shortly after posting this video. They now sit below her shoulders. Thanks for the advice!
Thanks again for all of the positive feedback!

CRPS... We've arrived!
"This one was made by Holly Schank for hers and our friend Michelle De Leonard."
There's been a pleasant dearth of fresh CRPS/RSD research to report lately, and so it seems the right moment to announce that, as a disease entity, CRPS is now on the map.
Things that mark this arriviste take on things? A ribbon. A plastic bracelet. A few correspondingly sick celebrities. An annual black tie Silent Auction... and at least one Walkathon.
Check, check, check, check, and... check!
But most of all? Most of all, there has to be a quilt.
I have an Attitude about Awareness and the various ways of Raising Awareness. I experience roughly the same sensations that I associate with a plummeting blood sugar -- it's très hypoglycemic. It's kind of a reaction against the prevalent Political Correctness.
Let's just say that my favorite cause button depicts a crisp red AIDS awareness ribbon against a white background, with "Fuck the red ribbon / Find a cure" in bolded italics.
Okay, so in addition to a constitutional dislike of What's Expected, my wariness about all the Awareness flying around might -- might -- have something to do with laziness, and I ought to be ashamed.
The most excellent Doctor Roberta, who Suture[s] For A Living, is the obvious medical blogger to make the announcement, as her handiwork outside surgery is as beautiful as it is within. She is one of few doctor bloggers to address Complex Regional Pain Syndrome/Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy: Here and here.
In her blog recently, she passed on details about the CRPS/RSD Awareness Quilt Project from its organization page over on Facebook:
Contribute a 12" x 12" patch to be added to the RSD/CRPS Awareness quilt. Make sure you keep what you want to show 1" away from the borders... This is for pain awareness. Help spread the word and make a square...if you need help participating please let us know....Mail all quilt panels to: RSD/CRPS Awareness Quilt P.O. Box 500915 Malabar, Fl. 32950-500915. Check out our links for information that can help you put your square together...everything from sewing tips to iron-on tranfers using your printer. If you have any questions please feel free to drop Troy Walker a message and I'll help you out if I can. Thank you very much for helping to spread awareness of Chronic Pain.
At last count, there were 137 panels documented by pictures on the Facebook page.

The Personal: Our Last Bastion
I am determined to trump my search engine.
I use Google, and, in general, love Google. Being an investor, the health and happiness of Google is very important to my own wellbeing, and to that of my household, fond as we all are of shelter and regular meals, as well as to my persnickety creditors, insistent as they are on timely and complete payments.
The interconnectedness we evidence shall serve as witness to the wondrousness of God's faithful creation! Or something.
Sorry. It's Sunday morning and I left the television on during my last nap session, which allowed Joel Osteen and other Smarty-Panted Religious Folk to tiptoe around my brain unsupervised.
Dangerous stuff, leading to weird wakeful convictions, like how Google may well be omnipotent. Well, at least three-in-one.
It's become nigh* unto impossible
[* I suffered one of my usual distractions with the word "nigh," but can report that the most interesting return on my curiousity was learning that the oft-used comparative -- yes, that'd be nigher -- has been in force since the 1400s. Mysteriously, The Erudite are convinced that there is no etymological relationship between the adjective in its evolved form (near) and that form's comparative, nearer. Crazy stuff, huh?]
Okay, so it's getting hard to enter any search term without Google cracking wise and "suggesting" it before I finish pecking the letters out. I fear that, eventually, out of self-defense, the lacunae of my vocabulary will be filled with short words and small expressions.
Challenged at such an elementary level of my ontological being, I am now engaged in a challenge:
Rather than seeking to be as concise as possible in my search requests, I am now wordy. Early frustrations have even prompted my wordiness to contain misspellings. Most of which Holy Google manages to catch. And for which, frequently, feigning indifference, Godly Google suggests corrections! Oy.
I can't be the only one to have noticed that The Personal has assumed a position of prominence in the face of technology. We litter Facebook with our particulars, we stick our tongues out (nyah, nyah, na-na-na!), we're united in false friendships based on homonyms -- we rape proper nouns, forcing our intimate meanings upon them. I tell Facebook to find my friend Joe Smith* and what tops the list of "over 500" that it returns is one Joel-with-a-middle-initial, because this person is a mutual friend of someone completely unknown to me.
Shift.
Of course, the Upcoming Paradigm Shift will be delayed a few days. Don't expect much in the way of movement from The People's Brigade before Thursday, October 14, 2010 -- when Google makes its earnings announcement. We're thinking there should be a few days' allowance for additional fluctuations in the market, as well.

* The first haphazard Joe Smith, as I know no actual Joe Smith, is represented by a photo of a person, face hooded and mostly blocked. Blocked by a big handgun from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the barrel of which is trained on all 1854 of its closest friends. [All of which goes to support my ongoing suspicions about persons from that state. See my editorial reflections introducing the blog post Shawnna's Con.]The Personal is bound to become our Good News, bound to eventually so muck up the informational machinery that even Google's error rate at reading our minds will skyrocket. My Mother's maiden name? Your last four? Her favorite erotica? Joel-with-a-middle-initial's preferred handgun? * Aunt Eugenia's taste in college roomies?
* We hear this as we wake: Ah! je ris de me voir si belle en ce miroir. The Personal, The Last Bastion! I wanted to clue you in, Dearest Readers, to the Upcoming Paradigm
